Beauty is more than skin deep!

Did you know that the skin is the largest organ of your dog’s body. It provides a protective barrier against the environment, regulates temperature, and gives your dog its sense of touch. Keeping your dog’s skin healthy doesn’t have to be hard, follow some of our tips below to keep your pooch’s skin in tip top shape!

Signs of unhealthy skin:

· Dry flaky skin (doggy dandruff)

· Bacterial or yeast overgrowth (stinky pooch)

· Abnormal shedding

Brushing

Coats need to be brushed on a regular basis to eliminate tangles or mats. Long haired dogs should be brushed daily, short haired dogs 1-2 times per week.

Bathing

A good rule of thumb is to bathe your dog about once a month.Start by choosing the right shampoo for the job ie. Detangling shampoo, anti-shedding shampoo, puppy shampoo. Wet your dog completely then lather up!

Grab a super absorbent towel for drying!

Nails

Fido’s feet can sometimes get forgotten, did you know that nails are an extension of the skin and should be trimmed every 3-4 weeks.Overgrown nails can lead to mobility issues and make your pet more prone to nail injuries such as splitting or splintering which could lead to a trip to the vet!
