You may have already noticed the sun setting earlier each day and your evening walks becoming darker and darker. Keeping this in mind, it is important to think about enhancing you and your pet’s visibility when spending time outdoors. Here are our dos and don'ts of nighttime walks.
DOS
Wear bright colours. Bright colours are easier to see by drivers and cyclists as they approach you. This goes for Fido, too!
Wear reflective gear. This makes you and Fido much more visible to oncoming cars.
Bring a light. There are many pet products that light up, such as collars and collar accessories.
DON'TS
Move too quickly. Objects that are moving quickly are more difficult to see! When crossing the street, be sure to look both ways and approach with caution. Do not run through intersections
or past cars. Always try to make eye contact with the driver.
Walk Fido without a leash unless in a designated area. Your dog may have excellent recall skills, but nocturnal critters like raccoons and skunks can be tempting for well-behaved dogs to chase.
